Sustainability

AFRICAN SLABS is extremely selective in where our hardwoods are sourced from. We adhere to FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), CITES, Lacey Act and international standards and best practices. We created African Slabs based on over 40 years of collective on the ground experience witnessing African forests being exploited and deforested. International standards are the bare minimum - truly sustainable timber is produced through strict localized conservation efforts. Timber suppliers providing our hardwoods have been visited by us personally and vetted for sustainability, localized conservation methods and community engagement.

Direct Supply Chain

Typical supply chain practices in the timber trade are not sustainable. Wood is usually bought from one place and then shipped to China or India for processing before finally being sent to timber distributors. All AFRICAN SLABS hardwoods are sourced and processed in the country of origin, ensuring a lower carbon footprint and higher revenue for local communities through a direct to buyer supply chain.

Giving Back to Community

AFRICAN SLABS supply chain practices are a model for sustainability in world timber trade, ensuring sustainable timber trade throughout the African continent. This direct supply method also increases revenue and development for local communities.

A portion of all sales go to reforestation programs in Tanzania.

We care deeply about the sustainability of the African timber trade because Africa is where we call home. Lifetimes have been spent seeing the exploitation and destruction of our natural resources. We are dedicated to changing the paradigm of the timber trade and our relationship with our entire environment and resource based economies. If you are not buying African hardwoods from AFRICAN SLABS, you are not buying as sustainably as you can!
