Our Team

Christopher Plummer

Founder and CEO of AFRICAN SLABS, Christopher Plummer is an architect, luxury furniture and interior designer. With a passion for delivering quality products from the African continent, Christopher spends his time traveling across borders in search of the most sustainable timber he can find. After his recent venture in The Republic of Gabon he was inspired by the degree of sustainable timber production the nation facilitated. This prompted him to launch AFRICAN SLABS in partnership with Gabonese and other African timber concessions.

Tony Romano

As lead partner and Managing Director, Tony has a wealth of experience in the custom design business and enjoys the process of breathing new life into antique furniture. Always hunting for new and exciting challenges, Tony joined the AFRICAN SLABS team to apply his skills and connections toward building and selling new creations using our tantalizing collection of luxury African hardwoods. He will likely never lose his passion for refurbishing lost treasures, but the prospect of forging new and uniquely beautiful furniture was too hard to resist.

Based in Austin, Texas Tony is responsible for the creation and distribution of our high end furniture collection and is looking forward to growing his network and developing his style alongside the AFRICAN SLABS team.

Ray Willbern

Ray first arrived in Africa to play a DJ set at a music festival in Malawi and hasn't left for long since. During his travels to more than a dozen Sub-Saharan African nations over the course of 11 years, Ray has learned several new languages while building an impressive array of contacts in business, diplomacy, finance, legal, media and politics. He has leveraged his first hand experience and personal network to launch East African Solutions, focused on facilitating trade and investment in East Africa and beyond. Many of the projects his firm takes on involve the complex negotiations and exploration involved with the reliable and sustainable sourcing of natural resources.

At AFRICAN SLABS, Ray is responsible for sourcing materials. This includes local and international government compliance surrounding sustainability as well as the negotiation of fair contracts and agreements with all stakeholders.

Brian Ayo

Born and raised in Arusha town; having traveled to many places across the country, Brian has a vast knowledge of the local terrain and people of Northern Tanzania. With a new vision for a better, more sustainable economy for the people of Tanzania as a whole, Brian has partnered up with AFRICAN SLABS as our East African Logistics Coordinator. Brian’s company is the only company we entrust our East African logistics to due to the specificity of our timber handling and transportation.
